We got answers to the most common questions we’re asked at CNC Madness.
How does your pricing work?
All jobs are different; therefore, a standard price is not possible. The price is dependent on material requirements, material usage, and machining time. Such things as cutting bit size, and material thickness can also require additional machine time to complete a cut.
How do I get a quote for my project?
If you are interested in having a quote done for your parts, its best to use the form below and upload a copy of your files. Once we can simulate the cutting to calculate machine time and determine materials needed, we can work up a cost.
Our goal is to provide a quote within 24 hours. Please reach out by phone if you have not gotten a quote as we may not have received the request.
Do you have a minimum order?
What type of files do you accept?
We can accept most file types but there are some that will increase the speed in which we can work up a quote.
If the part only requires a 2D cutting profile, the favored format is a 2D DXF file as this is what will be needed for quoting and cutting. If you are not able to provide a dxf or your part has 3D features, we can also accept formats such as IGES, STP, STL, DWG and PDF.
Check out our tutorial on exporting DXF files.
What types of materials do you cut?
With a large selection of in-stock material including carbon fiber, aluminum, fibreglass (G10), plastics and wood, you should find everything you need to make your project come to life. Check out our Materials page for more information.
What kind of cutters do you use?
We have 1.0mm, 1.6mm and 2.0mm cutters available to complete the cutting. Material thickness and part design will affect the required cutters needed and could affect the pricing of parts.
For the best pricing, we normally use a 1.6mm cutter for 0.5 – 3.0mm and anything thicker we use the 2.0mm cutter. If a smaller cutter is required for the cut than we normally use, this could affect the pricing of the cutting due to additional machine time. If required, we can use the 1.0mm cutter, but it has a maximum cut depth of 5.0mm.
If you have any concerns or require different tooling, please reach out and we can look into options.
Are you able to provide 3D features to my project like countersinking?
Yes, we are able to provide features such as pockets, chamfering, countersunk holes. Parts can also be machined on both sides. For some machining, it may require a jig to be made to hold the parts to allow machining on the back side.
How will my project be finished?
After machining, parts are brushed off and blown off with air. Washing can be requested and its suggested that parts be cleaned after receiving.
